Health Care Commission Issues Report

On Tuesday, January 8, the Affordable Health Care Commission met to finalize their recommendations to the Iowa Legislature.  The 25 member panel approved a report with broad goals for improving health and insurance coverage for Iowans.  Objectives to improve health and wellness of all Iowans; provide affordable insurance coverage for all Iowans; and insuring children were included as priorities.

Amy DeBruin, Interpower, Oskaloosa, represents ABI on the commission and played a key role in making sure that employers’ voices were heard during the eight commission meetings around the state.  Thank you Amy for your service.  The Commission hopes to have additional meetings into the spring as the legislature considers goals and recommendations from the report.

Iowa Legislature convenes on Monday, January 14, 2008

The Iowa Legislature will convene at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14.  ABI’s government relations team will be at the capitol to ensure ABI members are protected against anti-employer legislation.  Along with ABI staff, your input is essential to protect Iowa ’s business climate as the 2008 session progresses.

ABI’s top legislative priorities, including the full legislative agenda, can be viewed by clicking here.

Right to Work Challenge Expected

ABI and our members are once again prepared to defend Iowa ’s Right to Work Law.  As the session kicks off, it would be a great time to tell your legislator to vote “no” on gutting Iowa ’s Right to Work law.  Click this link for easy legislator contact information and issue talking points.

The Iowa Industry PAC is ABI’s best weapon to stop “anti-business” legislation and get back to advocating a pro-active business agenda.
