As manager for of the employee benefit and financial services departments at Krist Insurance Group, L.L.C., Troy Cook has 18 years of insurance experience. Starting out as an independent life agent and becoming an agency supervisor at the age of 24, Troy later transitioned into an employee benefit specialist, where he has spent the last 13 years.
Those 12 years began with him as an agent at Group Specialists, Inc in Cedar Rapids. He then served as the manager of the Iowa office for Roger Benefit Group, a sales organization generating over $1 billion of premium annually. In 2002, Troy returned to the agency side of the industry in the same capacity he enjoys today.
Troy has received numerous industry awards including life agency Rookie of the Year and is a 3 time Golden Eagle Leading Producers Round Table member from the National Association of Health Underwriters. He is certified as a Managed HealthCare Professional by HIAA and a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow. He has moderated LUTC classes numerous times and spoken to groups across the country on many topics from the insurance industry to motivational topics. He most recently completed a Wellness Certification Course from the National Association of Health Underwriters and developed an ethics class on behalf of IAHU.
Recently, Troy’s involvement with the National Association of Health Underwriters has seen his election to the Board of Directors for the state of Iowa for the past several years where he currently serves as Immediate Past President of the Iowa AHU. While in this position, he has been at the forefront of the Associations state and national efforts to provide reform to the health care industry. He was recently appointed to the National Legislative Council for NAHU in Washington D.C. He has been published numerous times for his writing and most recently by the Des Moines Register with his views on health care reform.
Troy has served as the Chair of Membership for the Cedar Rapids Chamber, been a member of the board of directors for rotary, was a founding board member for the Taste of Iowa, served as President of the Bull Moose Club, Executive Committee member for the Republican Party, been a board member of the Des Moines Area Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and was campaign manager for the Vander Plaats for Governor campaign in 2002. He currently is a Parks Advisory Board member for the City of Johnston and a member of the Blank Park Zoo’s Ambassador Council.
Troy resides in Johnston, Iowa with his wife, Deann, and two children; Colin who is 14 and Karly who is 10. He is active in coaching, golf, and numerous political activities.
