Proposal would deny employers any oversight of treatment or medical care for those injured on the job. While many changes have evolved over the past 95 years, Iowa has achieved one of the most balanced systems in the country which provides benefits to employees that are the best in the nation and some of the lowest insurance premiums. These bills permit employees to seek any type of treatment at employers’ expense without notice of injury to employer for up to 90 days. Not only would this legislation deny employees access to proper care and immediate specialist referrals, NCCI estimates the increased premium costs could reach nearly $100 million annually. HF 2608 would allow employee to pre-designate a non-occupational physician upon employment.
