ABI Input on Secretary of State Administrative Rule Results in Amendments

October 19, 2017

After ABI, along with the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and the Iowa Bar Association, testified at the Administrative Rules Review Committee meeting last week on the Secretary of State's proposed fee increase rule, the Secretary of State proposed rule amendments to accommodate ABI's concerns. These amendments will ensure the business filing fee increases proposed in the rule go exclusively to fund business services technology improvements and the fee increases sunset when the technology improvement fund sunsets in 2022.

In addition, ABI reported last week on a proposed IWD rule, which would create a new penalty for businesses that incorrectly classify workers. The department has decided not to move that rule forward, given concerns expressed by some ARRC committee members about the new fee, which would have generated more than a million dollars annually for the department's penalties and interest fund.
