McMahon honored with Leadership for Iowa Award

The Iowa Association of Business and Industry Foundation and Leadership Iowa are proud to honor Tom McMahon of Fairfield with the Leadership for Iowa Award, an honor bestowed annually on a distinguished alumnus of the Leadership Iowa program.

Recipients of this prestigious honor must show a demonstrated commitment to serve Iowa, have held a leadership role volunteering for civic and/or professional organizations, have demonstrated the ability to lead on difficult or controversial subjects and be involved in projects designed to enhance the quality of life in Iowa.

Honorees also must have a responsible position of leadership in employment or volunteer organizations that results in the potential to contribute to leadership development within a local or statewide setting.

McMahon has demonstrated these qualities with civic and professional contributions in his hometown of Fairfield, statewide and as an ongoing advocate for ABI and Leadership Iowa.

“Tom has been actively involved in helping ABI and its programs grow and prosper over the past 18 years and we are grateful for his commitment to valuable leadership development for Iowa students and professionals,” ABI President Mike Ralston said.

McMahon, a retired executive at Barker Specialty Products in Fairfield, was a member of the 1997-98 Leadership Iowa class. He has since served in leadership roles for all of the ABI Foundation’s programs, including Leadership Iowa, Leadership Iowa University and Business Horizon, in addition to serving of the ABI Board of Directors.

McMahon has been active in his community and state, serving as chairman of the Fairfield Community Recreation Project, past president of the Greater Jefferson Community Foundation, treasurer of The Lord’s Cupboard of Jefferson County, past chairman of the S Corp. Association of America and member of the Wellmark Foundation Board of Directors.

He joins a prestigious group of Iowa business and civic leaders who have received the Leadership for Iowa award. A list of past recipients can be found here.
