Leadership Iowa Travels to Des Moines for Government Session Jan. 15-17
January 14, 2020
Taking part in Iowa’s premier issues awareness program Leadership Iowa, 40 leaders from across the state comprising the Class of 2019-20 will visit Des Moines on Jan. 15-17 for an intensive three-day session focused on government.
Class members will take part in a congressional election simulation, gain an inside look at Iowa’s top legislative priorities and political landscape, learn about the state’s judicial processes and experience military training as a ‘soldier for a day’ at Camp Dodge.
“This class is taking what they’re learning from each speaker and truly asking of themselves and as a class ‘what we can do to help’ to affect powerful change in each community,” said Jacqueline Kiple (John Deere), graduate of the 2018-19 class now serving as a 2019-20 Program Co-Chair. “This solidifies the strength of this program and exemplifies what it means to be a leader in Iowa.”
Among the highlights of this month’s session will be attending the back-to-back events of ABI’s Legislative Briefing and Reception and the ABI Foundation’s Leadership Iowa Alumni Society Dinner and Celebration on Wednesday, Jan. 15, where class members will connect with more of our state’s decision makers.
Leadership Iowa is designed to educate, inspire and grow a network of informed leaders interested in creating a better future for Iowans. Participants take part in eight monthly sessions in different Iowa communities to gain in-depth insight into the opportunities and challenges facing our state. The program concludes in June at the ABI Taking Care of Business Conference in Cedar Rapids, where the Class of 2019-20 will graduate and join a network of over 1,200 alumni.
The session is sponsored by Baton Global, Palmer Group, CIBC Bank, Davis Brown Law Firm, HDH Advisors, LLC., Nyemaster Goode, P.C., R&R Realty, Riley Resource Group, BrownWinick, MidAmerican Energy, Greater Des Moines Partnership, Catch Des Moines, Iowa Army and Air National Guard, Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company, John Deere, Davis Brown Law Firm, and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
