2016 Presidential Watch: Events draw hopefuls to Iowa

Iowa Freedom Summit – Saturday: Republican Congressman Steve King is hosting a first-time event, the Iowa Freedom Summit, which some are calling the opening event of the 2016 Iowa caucus process. Twenty-three Republican officials and influencers have committed to attend the sold-out event at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines. Participants include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie; U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas; former Arkansas Governor and winner of the 2007 Iowa Straw Poll Mike Huckabee; former Alaska Governor and 2008 nominee for Vice President Sarah Palin; Texas Gov. Rick Perry; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker; business leader Donald Trump; former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich; and several others. Gov. Terry Branstad, Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Joni Ernst will also attend.

Iowa Agriculture Summit – March 7: This week, Iowa agribusiness leader and prominent Republican campaign donor Bruce Rastetter announced he will host a forum for potential 2016 presidential candidates. Rastetter has invited 23 participants from both major parties to the Iowa Agriculture Summit, which will take place at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
