Certain Areas of the State Set to Reopen Tomorrow, May 1

April 30, 2020

Gov. Kim Reynolds announced on Monday she would be partially reopening 77 counties across the state for business effective May 1. The governor, who had previously stated she would be looking at a reasonable, phased-in approach, signed a proclamation that will allow restaurants, fitness centers, malls and other retail establishments to open and operate at 50% capacity in the 77 counties. Those counties were selected because they have little to no COVID-19 activity. Businesses must adhere to other guidelines issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health. The governor extended other business closures until May 15 in those 77 counties. All businesses that were previously closed in the other 22 counties will continue to remain so until at least May 15.
