Differences in standings bill include wage study

April 28, 2016

The Iowa House and Senate are finalizing an agreement to the standings legislation, an appropriations bill addressing salaries for public employees that also serves as a catch-all of end of session proposals. Both chambers are interested in creating a task force to look at wage discrepancies in the state. Language in the House proposal calls for a study of all employees, regardless of gender or race, and compares the wages and benefits of those in the public sector to those in the private sector. The Iowa Senate language speaks specifically to the discrepancies between men and women in the workforce. There are a few other key differences, as well. You can read a comparison of the two proposals here.
