Federal Spotlight: DOL proposes new OT rules

July 2, 2015

The Department of Labor has proposed rules that would increase the number of employees eligible to receive overtime. Currently, employees who are salaried and earn more than $23,660 are not eligible for overtime. The proposal states anyone who earns less than $50,000 will be eligible for overtime. The rule would provide for an annual increase either through a fixed percentage or an annual inflater such as the consumer price index. The proposal does not take benefits into consideration. This rule will have major implications for all Iowa employers. To read the rule click here. For more information from the DOL, including an op-ed penned by President Obama on the issue, click here.
