Federal Spotlight: President signs bill disallowing OSHA regulations

April 6, 2017

President Trump on Tuesday signed a bill disallowing OSHA regulations that were contrary to statute and expanded the period during which employers would be at risk of penalties for OSHA reporting errors. This is another positive step for Iowa manufacturers and all employers affected by OSHA rules and regulations. In summary, the rule would have extended the statute of limitations for OSHA recordkeeping violations to five years, although the Occupational Safety and Health Act specifically limits the timeline to six months. The overreach of OSHA reporting requirements may also impact reporting of injuries and illness in the course of and arising from employment that may be covered for workers’ compensation.
