Federal Spotlight: Sen. Ernst Offers Proposal to Help Those on Frontline of COVID-19 Fight

April 30, 2020

As individuals and businesses continue to battle and persevere through the economic effects of the coronavirus, elected officials including Sen. Joni Ernst are putting forward measures aimed at alleviating that burden. She recently wrote in an op-ed that she will propose a temporary federal suspension of payroll and income taxes for essential workers like those who are employed in grocery stores, food processing plants, hospitals and other essential industries. The Senate is set to return to D.C. on Monday, while it’s unclear when the House will return. Lawmakers will be debating this and other policy ideas over the coming weeks and months as the federal government continues to look at ways to help workers and businesses affected by the coronavirus.
