Federal Spotlight: Support “COOL” Repeal
December 10, 2015
The World Trade Organization (WTO) issued its findings on Dec. 7 related to the Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) mandate. If the United States does not act immediately to repeal COOL, more than $1 billion in retaliatory tariffs could be levied. Potentially affected sectors include a wide range of agricultural products, including ethanol, as well as certain manufactured items. The U.S. House acted earlier this year, and now the Senate must act. The Senate should consider repeal of the Country of Origin Labeling requirements for pork, beef and poultry at the earliest possible opportunity. Please contact Senators Grassley and Ernst and ask them to support complete repeal of COOL.
