Federal Spotlight: USMCA Trade Deal Key to Iowa Economy

As Congress potentially considers the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) this spring or summer, now is the time to encourage members of Iowa’s Congressional delegation to approve the trade pact. The accord was signed last November by the leaders of the U.S., Mexico and Canada and is set to replace NAFTA. The new deal will increase market access for American businesses, strengthen intellectual property rights and incentivize more auto production in North America. Iowa’s top two trading partners are Mexico and Canada, and the ratification of this deal will provide the business community more certainty and opportunities in the trade arena.
