House Republicans release budget targets

April 23, 2015

On Wednesday, House Republicans announced their budget targets for the upcoming fiscal year with a total budget set at $7.175 billion. This amount is approximately $166 million less than the budget announced by Gov. Branstad earlier this year and Senate Democrats last week. School funding has been an ongoing point of contention this year and will continue with each budget allocating different amounts in that area. This is House Democrats’ main objection to the House Budget Targets. Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee Rep. Chuck Soderberg, R-LeMars, said, “Living within one’s means is something the hardworking taxpayers of Iowa do every day. Government needs to do the same.”
