Iowa House District 55 Not Final

More than a week has passed and the outcome in Iowa House District 55 has not been finalized. Although current State Rep. Michael Bergan (R-Dorchester) holds a slight lead, Kayla Koether has not yet conceded the race. The county canvass of votes was held this week, and if a candidate wishes to request a recount, they have until Friday of this week or Monday of next. On Wednesday, 31 ballots were determined not valid because the post office did not have a postmark on the ballots. Without a postmark, the ballots cannot be counted if they do not arrive in time to the auditor’s office. This race may not be officially decided for a few more weeks, so stay tuned for more information in a future newsletter about the outcome.
