Iowa Senate approves another employer mandate

March 3, 2016

The Iowa Senate on Wednesday approved SF 2252 by a vote of 28-22. The bill requires employers provide reasonable accommodations for pregnant and nursing mothers. ABI opposes the legislation as it places the burden of proof in accommodation cases on the employer and also hinders communications between employees and employers. The bill would cost an estimated $100,000 for the state to enforce. We expect the bill to be assigned to the House Labor Committee. ABI has already spoken to committee chairman Rep. Greg Forristall (R-Macedonia) about employer concerns with the legislation. Staff contact: Nicole Crain
