Iowa Senate Introduces Medical Marijuana Proposals

January 31, 2019

Members in the Iowa Senate have introduced legislation that would expand Iowa’s law as it relates to the use of cannabidiol. There are multiple proposals that do a variety of things, including increasing the THC allowed and expanding the conditions allowed to use medical marijuana. The first subcommittee on one of the proposals, SF 77, was held Wednesday with several interested parties in attendance. The legislation discussed today did not include strong employer protections, which ABI has been advocating for since before the law was initially passed. Another proposal, SF 104, is entitled the compassionate use of medical cannabis act and is very expansive. The language ABI has proposed in past years is included in that proposal. We will continue to monitor this issue throughout the session to ensure employer protections are included in any language that advances.
