Iowa Unemployment Rate Drops to Second Lowest in the Nation

January 28, 2021

On Tuesday, Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) announced the state’s unemployment rate had plunged to 3.1% for the month of December. It’s a drop of .7% from the month of November. To put that into perspective, the U.S. unemployment rate is currently 6.7%. IWD Director Beth Townsend notes in IWD’s new release it’s a very encouraging sign to see a large number of people gaining employment at this time, as the months of November through February are typically when IWD sees the most unemployment numbers due to seasonal layoffs. She also commented there are 64,000 job postings available on IowaWorks.gov right now.
