Local Elections on November 7

October 19, 2017

On Tuesday, Nov. 7, Iowa voters will go to the polls and elect municipal representation. Former Speaker of the U.S. House Tip O'Neill stated, "All politics is local." Remember, most of your property tax dollars stay in your city, county or school district. Do you have a local option sales tax? That revenue stays local. Who determines how to spend the money? City councils. Make sure you are registered to vote.

Iowans are fortunate to have many opportunities to participate in the election process. Absentee voting begins 40 days prior to the election and polls are open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on Election Day. There is no excuse for not participating. If you are going to be out of town or unable to vote on Election Day, make plans to vote early. Access ABI's Election Center, which has information on how to register to vote and cast an absentee ballot. Make sure to vote!
