New administrative rules website increases transparency

May 21, 2015

This week, a website was launched to make it easier for the general public to follow pending administrative rules. Rules are typically developed by state agencies to clarify or implement legislation. At times, agencies add language into a rule document that can be controversial. The ABI public policy staff also tracks administrative rules and sees this new site as a great resource for ABI members. While reviewing the new site, ABI staff came across an update to existing rules for Iowa Prison Industries. During the last several years, ABI members have expressed concern to the association about the products sold by IPI and the competition with the private sector. ABI is currently seeking member feedback on the rule. Please click here to read the brief rule and let us know if you have any feedback on the issue. A public hearing will be held on June 2 to consider this rule.
