Property Tax Legislation Ready for Full House Discussion

April 11, 2019

Late Tuesday evening members of the House Ways and Means Committee voted on a party-line vote to advance HSB 165 with amendment to the full House for consideration. The legislation is an attempt to address rising property taxes on businesses and residential taxpayers. The bill places a 2% cap on local governments' ability to increase property tax revenue. The legislation exempts some levies from the cap and has some other provisions. The new bill is HF 773, and it is expected there will be additional amendments proposed during floor debate. Legislators are hearing from their local elected officials in opposition to the bill.
