Revised Unemployment Insurance Legislation Advances

On Wednesday, the Senate Ways & Means Committee approved SSB 1273, legislation that implements a one-week waiting period for unemployment benefits and eliminates bonus wage credits and benefit weeks when a business closing is involved. The bill also makes changes to unemployment eligibility for seasonal workers and adds key definitions to the Iowa Code. The bill, similar to the legislation ABI worked to advance earlier this session, will help ensure the long-term solvency of the trust, while continuing to pay generous benefits to claimants.
