Stricter workplace alcohol standards proposed

February 12, 2015

A bill that proposes coupling the Iowa law for alcohol-related violations in the workplace with federal standards has passed out of subcommittee. Current federal standards are more stringent than Iowa standards. If the Iowa law is changed, employers will be able to implement stricter standards, which may alleviate compliance and safety concerns. House Study Bill 116 received a unanimous vote in subcommittee and will likely come before the full House Commerce Committee for a vote next week.
