Wage payment issue receives additional debate

Although the wage payment collection legislation (Senate File 270) did not make the legislative funnel earlier this year, Rep. Bruce Hunter (D-Des Moines) offered an amendment to the economic development appropriations bill that would change the burden of proof in wage payment claims to the employer and establish a rebuttable presumption. The amendment failed, but there may be other opportunities for senators and representatives to try to bring this language forward yet this year.
